Search Engine Optimization

What is it?

“Search engine optimization is the process of affecting the online visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results.” — Wikipedia

SEO may seem like a mystical manipulation of a search engines algorithm, but there’s nothing mystical about it. Every time you search something on Google for example, “organic tomatoes” Google has to figure out what your intent was. Do you want to buy organic tomatoes? Or would you like a tutorial on how to plant organic tomatoes?

Google has over 200 ranking factors for your website to “qualify” for the top results of the first page.

SEO is manipulation of a websites online presence to better qualify for a Search Engine (Google) users intent (based on their keyword input). That intent for example being local such as “24hr emergency dentist near me”.

If your websites’ online presence has been established that you provide that service near the surrounding area of that user, your website and contact info  is very likely to show up on the first page.

Is SEO a smart investment?

In short, yes, absolutely.

But why?

Google carries around 70% of all search engine traffic and 70% of clicks are on the top 5 organic (non-paid) results.

Getting to the top isn’t easy, and it shouldn’t be. The implementation of SEO requires an assessment of opportunities and its viability. Then your page must be optimized to serve the users appropriately. The results of a professionally optimized website can be staggering.

In a matter of months, a website that had no traffic at all can be leveraged to bring in specific traffic that has intentions to interact with your offers. Which could be a contracting your business for service, an online purchase, information. The opportunities for leverage with optimized traffic are boundless. (See what I did there.)

If you’re one that likes figures, let’s take for example the highly competitive online demand of attorneys, where each click of a  pay-per-click ad can cost up to $70. Those websites that are organically ranked get those clicks which could convert to a client for zero dollars.

SEO is an online lever that can help many businesses increase not only their revenue but their influence on the market as an authority figure.
